David Langston * Head Coach * 7th Year

                        

 

Coach Langston enters his seventh season as the Patriot's skipper.  Since his arrival on the campus of Northwest Shoals he has guided the Patriots to 6 straight seasons with 30+ wins and 6 NJCAA Region 22 Tournament appearances. The Patriots tripled their win total during his first year at the helm, going from 10 wins in 2001 to 30 wins in 2002. Since arriving in Muscle Shoals he has helped 44 Patriots receive scholarship offers from four year institutions.  During his tenure Coach Langston has had 32 All Conference players, 8 All Region performers, and 1 All American. The NWSCC baseball program has had 40 athletes post a GPA of 3.0 or better in a semester since his arrival.

 

Coach Langston has been the pioneer in several upgrades and renovations at Patriot Park, including the installation of lights, a new infield surface, concrete and turf in the cage area, a new weight room facility, construction of the outfield wall, and renovations to the dugouts. He is currently working towards the installation of chair back seating behind home plate. Coach Langston has also implemented successful summer and fall leagues for area high school baseball players. 

 

Prior to coming to NWSCC Coach Langston was the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Jefferson State Community College. During his 4 year tenure at JSCC he helped lead the Pioneers to 4 NJCAA Region 22 Tournament Appearances and 3 Northern Conference Championships. During the 2000 season, the Pioneers were ranked number 1 in the NJCAA Division II National Poll.  Under his tutelage the Pioneers had 12 pitchers sign with Division I baseball programs including Auburn, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, UAB, Georgia, Mississippi State, Lamar University, and Lipscomb University. He coached 19 pitchers that moved on to four year institutions during his time at Jefferson State.

 

Before coming to Jeff State Langston was the Head Baseball Coach at Minor High School in Adamsville, AL. During his two years at Minor he led them to two Area Championships and two State Playoff appearances. Coach Langston began his coaching career at Jeff State in 1997 as an Assistant to current Auburn Pitching Coach Butch Thompson, where he helped lead the Pioneers to a Region 22 Championship and an appearance in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

 

David is a 1991 graduate of Curry High School in Jasper, Alabama where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. After his high school career he moved on and pitched for Northwest Shoals and led them to a two year record of 73-20 and two Region 22 Tournament appearances. Following his playing career here at Northwest Shoals, David made the trip to Birmingham to play for Brian Shoop at Birmingham Southern College. While at Birmingham Southern he helped lead the Panthers to the NAIA World Series.

 

David, 34, is married to the former Challice Whitehead of Muscle Shoals and has three children Landon 8, Peyton 5, and Banks 3.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Phillip Campbell *Assistant Baseball* 1st Year

 

 

Phillip Campbell begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Patriots.  Campbell’s duties include infield coach, hitting coach, and assisting with recruiting efforts. 

    

Phillip began his coaching career in 2002 at LaVergne High School in LaVergne, TN, working under Coach Craig Reavis. The Wolverines won the Class AAA State Championship in 2002 and finished as district runner-up in 2003. In 2004, Coach Campbell moved to the newly opened Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, TN. In assisting with the development of a new program, the Stars advanced to the regional tournament in 2005 and continually improved their facilities and caliber of play. During his six-year high school coaching career, Campbell coached 22 players that advanced to play collegiate baseball with 1 of them advancing to the professional level.

    

Phillip graduated from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, TN. He was a four-year starter for the Warrior baseball program. After graduating in 1997, Phillip played for four years at Middle Tennessee State University, serving as a middle infielder and third baseman. Campbell was a member of the 2000 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Champions, who advanced to the finals of the Clemson Regional. In 2001, the nationally ranked Blue Raiders won the regular season Sun Belt Conference Championship, advancing to the University of Tennessee Regional.

    

Phillip is 28 and resides in Muscle Shoals.

 

 

 

 

 

Justin Thompson * Assistant Coach *1st Year

 

 

Justin Thompson begins his first year as an assistant at Northwest Shoals. In addition to working with the outfielders and hitters, Justin will spearhead the Patriot’s strength and conditioning program.

 

Justin graduated from Pickens Acadamy in 2000, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. After graduating, Justin attended Huntington College, where he was a letter-winning member of both the baseball and basketball program. Coach Thompson was an academic all-conference team member for baseball. He was also a member of the 2000-2001 NSCAA National Championship team in basketball.

 

After graduating from Huntington, Justin began coaching at Pickens Academy and working various camps. While at Pickens, Coach Thompson coached both baseball and basketball. In 2006, Justin moved to Loudon High School in Loudon, TN, where he served as an assistant baseball and basketball coach.

 

Justin is 25 and married to the former Stefanie Lavender. The Thompsons reside in Corinth, MS.
