Coach Langston

David Langston *Head Coach* 9th Year

Coach Langston enters his ninth season as the Patriot's skipper. Since his arrival on the campus of Northwest-Shoals he has guided the Patriots to 8 straight seasons with 30+ wins and 8 NJCAA Region 22 Tournament appearances. The Patriots tripled their win total during his first year at the helm, going from 10 wins in 2001 to 30 wins in 2002. Since arriving in Muscle Shoals, he has helped 60 Patriots receive scholarship offers from four year institutions. During his tenure Coach Langston has had 40 All Conference players, 11 All Region performers, and 2 All American.
Coach Langston has been the pioneer in several upgrades and renovations at Patriot Park, including the installation of lights, a new infield surface, concrete and turf in the cage area, a new weight room facility, construction of the outfield wall, renovations to the dugouts, intallation of chair back seating behind home plate,and new score board. Coach Langston has also implemented successful summer and fall leagues for area high school baseball players.
Prior to coming to NW-SCC, Coach Langston was the Ptiching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Jefferson State Community College. During his 4 year tenure at JSCC he helped lead the Pioneers to 4 NJCAA Region 22 Tournament Appearances and 3 Northern Conference Championships. During the 2000 season, the Pioneers were ranked number 1 in the NJCAA Division II National Poll. Under his tutelage the Pioneers had 12 pitchers sign in the Division I baseball programs including Auburn, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, UAB, Georgia, Mississippi State, Lamar University, and Lipscomb University. He coached 19 pitchers that moved on to four year institutions during his time at Jefferson State.
Before coming to Jefferson State, Langston was the Head Baseball Coach at Minor High School in Adamsville, AL. During his two years at Minor he led them to two Area Championships and two State Playoff appearances. Coach Langston began his coaching career at Jeff State in 1997 as an Assistant to current Auburn Pitching Coach Butch Thompson, where he helped lead the Pioneers to a Region 22 Championship and an appearance in the NJCAA Division II World Series.
David is a 1991 graduate of Curry High School in Jaspar, Alabama where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. After his high school career, he moved on and pitched for Northwest-Shoals and led them to a two year record of 73-20 and two Region 22 Tournament appearances. Following his playing career here at Northwest-Shoals, David made the trip to Birmingham to play for Brian Shoop at Birmingham Southern College. While at Birmingham Southern, he helped lead the Panthers to the NAIA World Series.
David, 36, is married to the former Challice Whitehead of Muscle Shoals and has three children: Landon, 10, Peyton, 7, and Banks, 5.

Shane Chappell and Family

Shane Chappell *Assistant Coach* 2nd Year

Shane Chappell begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Patriots. Chappell will take over the Northwest-Shoals pitching staff and assist with recruiting efforts.
Shane began his coaching career in 2005 at Clay Chalkville High School in Clay, AL under then head coach Jeff Mauldin. The Cougars played in the class 6A state championships in 2006 finishing runner-up to Baker High School. In 2007, Coach Chappell moved to Corner High School in Warrior, AL. As head coach at Corner, the Yellow Jackets won the area championship and competed in the class 4A state playoffs, and also improved their facilities and caliber of play.
Shane graduated from Corner High Shcool in warrior, AL. He was a four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets baseball program. After graduating in 2001, Shane played for two years at Northwest-Shoals Community College, serving as a conference starter. Shane was one of the key components in getting the Northwest-Shoals baseball program where it is today. While playing for the Patriots, Chappell was named to the 2nd Team All ACCC and the Patriots advanced to the regional tournament both years. Chappell is currently second all time in innings pitched, fifth all time in strikeouts, and fourth all time in complete games.
After playing two years for the Patriots, Chappell moved on to play at University of North Alabama, serving as a relief pitcher. During Chappell's senior year at UNA, he was named 2nd Team All GSC and set the school record for most appearances. The Lions set a GSC record for most consecutive conference wins, was ranked nationally, and competed in the Gulf South Conference championship game finishing runner-up to West Alabama.
Shane is 26 and resides in Muscle Shoals with his wife Alicia, and their kids Jordan and Turner.

Josh Fowler *Assistant Coach* 4th Year

Josh Fowler returns for his third season as an assistant coach for the Patriots. Fowler previously was on the Patriots coaching staff for two years, but took a year off to pursue his degree. Fowler will work with infielders, input stats, and assist with the recruiting efforts.
Fowler began his coaching career in 2005 as a volunteer assistant coach at Deshler High School in both football and baseball. The Tigers football and baseball teams competed in the class 4A state playoffs. In 2006 Josh was hired as an assistant coach for Northwest-Shoals serving as the outfield coach. The Patriots won the Northern Division championship both years Fowler was on staff.
Josh graduated from Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, AL. He was a four-year starter for the Tiger baseball rpogram. After graduating in 2001, Josh played for two years at Northwest-Shoals Community College where he started shortstop both years. Fowler was one of the key components in getting the Northwest-Shoals baseball program where it is today. While playing for the Patriots, Fowler was named to the 1st Team All ACCC and the Patriots advanced to the regional tournament both years. Josh is currently second all time in games played, fourth all time in at bats, and fifth all time in stolen bases at Northwest-Shoals. After playing two years for the Patriots, Fowler continued his education at the University of North Alabama where he is pursuing his degree in Social Science Education.
Josh is 26, and currently serving as the resident life assistant for the Northwest-Shoals athletics.
