Precalculus Triginometry

Prerequisites: A minimum prerequisite of high school Algebra I, Geonometry, and Algebra II with an appropriate mathematics placement score is required. An alternative to this is that the student should successfully pass with a "C" or higher MTH112. ("S" is taken as a pass/fail.)

Course Description:

This course includes the study of trigonemetric (circular functions) and inverse trignometric identities and trigonometric equations. This course also covers vectors, complex numbers, DeMoivre's Theorem, and polar coordinates. Additional topics may include conic sections, sequences, and using matrices to solve linear systems.

Lab Information:
Students are not required to attend an on-campus lab for this course. 
However, students have access to computers in campus computer labs, libraries, and career centers if needed to complete course assignments..

Going to Campus : Students within commuting distance will be required to come to campus to take four exams during the semester.  Students not within reasonable commuting distance (over 100 miles) will be required to have an approved proctoring arrangement used for all exams. Proctoring arrangements for all exams should be made and confirmed within the first three weeks of classes. Students should speak with the instructor regarding test proctoring, and the Distance Education Office will work with the student to find an appropriate proctor.
 
Special Attendance Requirements : Students will need to come to campus to complete four course exams.

Course Requirements & Assignments:
Please refer to course syllabus. The syllabus will be posted for registered students in Blackboard and will be available by the end of the second day of classes.  A sample course syllabus is linked here.  However, the instructor reserves the right to modify the course syllabus and assignments at his/her discretion.

Course Materials:

 
Textbooks: Precalculus; 7th Edition; R. E. Larson and R. P. Hosteteler, Houghton-Mifflin, 2007.
 
 
Software Requirements:  Eduspace online registration is required. High speed internet service is recommended. Videotapes are available in the library. The student may also find Interactive Precalculus CD-ROM and Precalculus website (college.hmco.com) helpful.
 
Students will need to type, print and save documents in Microsoft Word (.doc) format.  Students may use Writer to complete course assignments.  Writer is the word processing software program available for FREE download from OpenOffice.org.

Recommended Supplies:  Any scientific (non-graphing) calculator will be adequate for this course.
128 MB Flash Drive  is also recommended.  Flash drive will be used to store assignments until they are submitted in Blackboard.

Tuition & Fees:

Distance education students will pay $90 per credit hour enrolled.  This equals $270 for a 3 credit hour course or $360 for a four credit hour class.
