The grant will span four years beginning Oct. 1, 2001 and provides equal $100,000 annual payments to the college through Sept. 30, 2005.  Funding is provided through the NSF Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship (CSEMS) program.

Northwest-Shoals students selected for the scholarship program can receive up to $3,125 annually.  Among the criteria for selection are financial need and full-time enrollment in a computer science, technology, engineering or mathematics degree program.
 
Northwest-Shoals plans to recruit about 29 students annually for the CSEMS program.  The scholarship will pay for up to two years of full-time enrollment.

Local industry has committed to provide the student
scholars with opportunities for on-the-job training through internships or industrial training.
