Virtual Tour
The essence of our institution is "life-long learning." We're a place where individuals may begin professional and/or occupational training or may retrain in preparation for a career change. Many of our students seek to enhance their quality of life by beginning new hobbies through our program of continuing education.

Although officially, we're a young school, our roots trace to the beginnings of community college education in Alabama. The Phil Campbell campus was founded in 1963 as Northwest Alabama State Junior College, the first public junior college in the Alabama College System. The Shoals campus was started in 1966 as Joe Wheeler State Trade School. Northwest-Shoals Community College was established on Sept. 9, 1993 through a merger of Shoals Community College and the Phil Campbell campus of Northwest Community College.

Regardless of your reasons, Northwest-Shoals is the best start for your future years. Here you'll find diversity with a common thread. The thread is one of a sense of neighborhood. The truth is that you'll find your fellow students are your neighbors. They are young people fresh from high school, middle-aged workers seeking better job opportunities, single parents, retirees, men and women, students just like you.
