Melinda Weaver, Alabama Power Community Relations Manager presents NWSCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross with a $5,000 donation from the Alabama Power Foundation on the NWSCC Phil Campbell Campus.

PHIL CAMPBELL, ALA. — Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) received a $5,000 donation from the Alabama Power Foundation Thursday afternoon (11/5) to revitalize the nature trail and provide an outdoor classroom on the Phil Campbell campus.

“We are so appreciative of Alabama Power and their support of Northwest Shoals Community College,” said NWSCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross. “These funds will help us enhance the beauty of the Phil Campbell campus and especially the nature trail and outdoor classroom.”

The nature trail was once home to an observatory and an amphitheater/outdoor classroom, used for collegiate and K-12 science instruction and community events. Unfortunately, it has suffered damage from past storms.

“We are proud to help support Northwest-Shoals with the restoration of the nature trail and outdoor classroom,” said Melinda Weaver, Alabama Power Community Relations Manager. “The Alabama Power Foundation looks for opportunities to help build and strengthen our communities through initiatives such as this.”

Once the trail and amphitheater/outdoor classroom have been restored, NWSCC looks forward to providing it as a free resource to area elementary, middle, high schools, and the community.

“We have an amazing community, and this is just another way that we would like to be able to provide an educational resource for them to enjoy,” stated Colagross.
