Event: Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) will host the ribbon cutting and grand re-opening of the revitalized Cecil Clapp Nature Trail and outdoor classroom on the Phil Campbell Campus Monday, April 26, 2021, at 2 p.m.
Who: The event will include a ribbon cutting with the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, performance from the NWSCC Jazz Band, and brief remarks from NWSCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross, Alabama State Representative Jamie Kiel, Alabama State Representative Proncey Robertson, Vanessa King of the Northwest Alabama RC&D Council, and Alabama Power Community Relations Manager Melinda Weaver.
What: The Cecil Clapp Nature Trail was once home to an observatory and outdoor classroom, used for collegiate and K-12 science instruction and community events. Unfortunately, it suffered damage from the 2011 F-5 tornado that devastated parts of Phil Campbell and Hackleburg. NWSCC received funds from Northwest Alabama RC&D Council and the Alabama Power Foundation to help the College revitalize the nature trail and provide an outdoor classroom on the Phil Campbell campus. The outdoor classroom will be named in memory of former NWSCC science instructor Joe Mark Alls.
When: Monday, April 26, 2021; 2:00 p.m.
Where: The event will be held on the Cecil Clapp Nature Trail at the revitalized outdoor classroom behind the NWSCC Phil Campbell campus, 2080 College Road, Phil Campbell, AL, 35581.
