MUSCLE SHOALS, ALA. — Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) will hold Metallica Scholars Manufacturing Day Thursday, October 21, on the Shoals campus from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The open house networking event will offer opportunity for the community to explore the manufacturing careers possible through NWSCC.
“Events like these are vital for the future of our college and local workforce,” stated NWSCC Interim President Dr. Chris Cox. “We have to continue to educate and promote the remarkable manufacturing careers that are available to our students right here in Northwest Alabama.”
Manufacturing Day is held annually on the first Friday in October to promote manufacturing careers with events held throughout the month. NWSCC will provide an opportunity for college students, high school students, and the general public to experience and learn more about six manufacturing careers: Carpentry, Electrical, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Industrial Maintenance, Machining, and Welding.
Each NWSCC program’s open house will be joined by local business and industry representatives in the area. “This is a tremendous opportunity for our current students and prospective students to network with our local business and industry and see how our program ties directly into our local workforce,” said NWSCC Associate Dean John McIntosh. “Our business and industry partners have been incredible supporters of our individual programs and the College as a whole. The relationship we have with them helps us to provide them with a well-trained workforce.”
NWSCC was one of nine schools chosen for the 2021-2022 Metallica Scholars Initiative, funded by legendary rock band Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation. This program supports NWSCC students in advanced manufacturing and construction majors. Metallica Scholars Initiative students will serve as tour guides for the event.
Each of the above listed career technical programs will offer their open house in their program’s building. For more information about the Metallica Scholars Manufacturing Day, please contact Allison Mefford at allison.mefford@nwscc.edu.
