APRIL 10, 2026 — BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) students Kaleb Gruskiewich, of Muscle Shoals, and Veronica McWilliams, of Tuscumbia, were named as two of 48 students in the state to the 2026 All-Alabama Academic Team.
They were honored today, Friday (4/10), during the 31st annual 2026 All-Alabama Academic Team Recognition Ceremony at the Embassy Suites Birmingham-Hoover.
Gruskiewich and McWilliams will each receive a $1,000 scholarship for being selected to the All-Alabama Academic Team. Gruskiewich was also named to the Coca-Cola Academic Team and will earn an additional $1,300 scholarship.
Last year’s All-Alabama Academic team amassed $61,250 in scholarships. The event takes place during Community College Month, complementing the All-USA Academic Team program sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and the American Association of Community Colleges.
Gruskiewich plans to graduate from NWSCC later this spring with an Associate in Science and transfer to the University of North Alabama to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
McWilliams plans to graduate from NWSCC later this spring with an Associate in Applied Science with a concentration in cosmetology and open a new salon named L&C Beauty Studio in Florence.
The Alabama Community College System’s All-Alabama Academic Team Recognition Program was established in 1995 as an enhancement to the All-USA National Academic Team Recognition Program, which is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the American Association of Community Colleges and USA Today.
